The birds greet it with their cheerful song.” A perfect description for the opening, the orchestra begins in full swing with energy and merriment and there is a play between loud and soft dynamics with each entry of a new melodic phrase. The first line of the sonnet to complement the concerto is, “Joyful spring has arrived. The first movement is very happy, joyful, and welcoming and begins with a memorable motivic phrase that is repeated several times throughout the piece in different keys and at the end appears back in its original. Each movement is set to a group of text that makes up the sonnet describing the season of spring to accompany the piece. “La Primavera” or “Spring,” in particular is composed of three movements, Allegro, Largo, and Allegro (Rustic Dance). Made up of four pieces, each concerto is musically written to portray each of the four seasons. Also known as “The Four Seasons,” they are one of Vivaldi’s most famous violin concertos. In 1725, Antonio Vivaldi’s “Le quattro stagioni” was published.
